Davide Renne, Former Gucci Head Designer, Passes Away at 46 Shortly After Assuming Role as Moschino’s Creative Director

In a shocking and tragic turn of events, the Italian fashion maestro Davide Renne, who had recently taken on the role of creative director at Moschino, passed away on Friday in Milan at the age of 46. Renne’s untimely demise occurred just days after he assumed this pivotal position, leaving the fashion industry in grief.

Brief Tenure at Moschino

Originally hailing from Tuscany, Davide Renne commenced his tenure at Moschino on November 1. However, an unexpected and undisclosed illness cut short his promising journey, as announced by Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Aeffe SpA, Moschino’s parent company.

“Despite the brevity of his time with us, Davide managed to establish immediate love and respect,” expressed Ferretti. “Today, we are entrusted with the responsibility of realizing the imaginative and creative vision he had conceived.”

Succession and Debut Collection

Renne, responsible for overseeing both women’s and men’s collections, along with accessories, succeeded Jeremy Scott, the American designer who stepped down in March after almost a decade. The much-anticipated debut collection under Renne’s creative direction, originally slated for Milan Fashion Week in February 2024, now carries a poignant significance.

“With Davide, we were actively engaged in an ambitious project, fostering an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future,” remarked Ferretti.

Gucci Legacy and Industry Tribute

Before his venture with Moschino, Davide Renne contributed two decades to Gucci, ultimately becoming the head designer of womenswear under the leadership of Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele. Alessandro Michele, honoring his late colleague, shared a heartfelt message on social media, emphasizing Renne’s irreplaceable role in their “tight-knit family.”

Farewell to a Visionary

Last month, as Renne joined Moschino, Ferretti commended the designer’s “extremely sophisticated vision of fashion’s power” and profound understanding of Moschino’s legacy. Renne, a graduate of Florence’s prestigious Polimoda fashion institute, expressed eagerness to embark on this new chapter.

As the fashion world grapples with this unexpected loss, Davide Renne’s legacy as a talented visionary and an integral part of the Moschino family will undoubtedly endure. The brand, now entrusted with preserving his creative vision, faces the challenge of moving forward without the promising talent that was Davide Renne.
