Former Police Officer Derek Chauvin Stabbed in Federal Prison, “Stable” Condition Reported

In a shocking turn of events, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted in the killing of George Floyd, was reportedly stabbed in federal prison. The incident occurred at The Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson, with Chauvin now in “stable” condition, according to sources.

Former police officer Derek Chauvin, currently serving time for the death of George Floyd, was stabbed in a federal prison, as per sources. The attack took place at The Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson, at approximately 12:30 p.m. local time on Friday. Chauvin’s condition is reported as “stable,” and he is expected to survive.

Prison employees swiftly responded to the stabbing incident, containing the situation at the medium-security prison. The Bureau of Prisons released a statement confirming the assault and stating that life-saving measures were administered by both prison staff and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). No employees were injured during the incident, and the FBI has been notified.

Though the inmate involved has not been officially identified, sources have indicated that it was indeed Derek Chauvin, aged 47, who has been serving a concurrent sentence for George Floyd’s death. The stabbing incident adds another layer to the already high-profile case that sparked nationwide protests against police brutality and racism.

Chief of Minneapolis Police Brian O’Hara expressed his sentiments, emphasizing that violence should never be a cause for celebration. He acknowledged Chauvin’s criminal conduct leading to George Floyd’s death and called for quiet reflection as the community processes this latest development.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who led Chauvin’s prosecution on state charges, expressed sadness at the news. He stressed that, regardless of Chauvin’s convictions, every incarcerated individual deserves to serve their sentence without fear of violence or retaliation.

Derek Chauvin was found guilty on three counts in April 2021, receiving a 22 ½ year prison sentence in June 2021. In June 2022, he was sentenced to an additional 21 years on federal civil rights charges related to George Floyd’s death. The Supreme Court recently denied Chauvin’s appeal on his second-degree murder charge, rejecting claims of an unfair trial.
