Man Arrested in Hartlepool Amid Counter Terrorism Investigation

A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, as part of an ongoing investigation by counter terrorism police officers in Hartlepool.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a tragic incident unfolded in the Tees Street area of Hartlepool, resulting in the loss of one individual’s life and the assault of another.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and is currently in police custody. Cleveland Police are receiving support from Counter Terrorism Policing North East as they conduct inquiries into this unsettling case.

Counter Terrorism Involvement

The involvement of counter-terrorism officers is attributed to “initial inquiries,” as stated by Cleveland Police. The force has noted, “Counter Terrorism Policing has deployed its specialist capabilities to help establish what happened.”

No Ongoing Threat to Public

It is important to stress that there is no believed ongoing threat to the public or the local community related to this incident. While a cordon remains in place, an active search is underway at a property within the area.

Injured Party’s Condition

The individual who was subjected to the assault was promptly taken to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment. Fortunately, the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
