The search for Charles Kelly, a hillwalker who vanished in the Scottish Highlands seven weeks ago, has ended in a tragic discovery. Mr. Kelly, affectionately known as Charlie, disappeared during an expedition in Glen Etive, leaving his family and the community in a state of worry. Although formal identification is pending, the authorities have notified Mr. Kelly’s relatives of the distressing find.

The Disappearance and Search Efforts:

The 56-year-old adventurer set out from his residence in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, on the 6th of September, a Wednesday, and the following evening marked the last communication his family received from him. Responding swiftly, Police Scotland urged fellow hikers in the area to stay vigilant. An extensive search operation was launched, with mountain rescue teams from Glencoe, Lochaber, Oban, and Arrochar joining forces. The Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Search and Rescue Dog Association also collaborated, while an HM Coastguard helicopter provided vital air support.

Tragic Discovery and Investigation Update:

During the search, Mr. Kelly’s backpack was located, but there was no sign of him at that time. On Wednesday, a spokesperson from Police Scotland updated the public, stating that there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body. The authorities confirmed that a report on the situation would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as part of the ongoing investigation.
