In this heartfelt ceremony, the Texas A&M community will come together to remember and honor the lives of three exceptional students. These students are:
- Drake B. Hardison: A sophomore hailing from Keller, diligently pursuing studies in engineering.
- Dylan Kanoa Miyamoto: A graduate student who came all the way from Kaneohe, Hawaii, to explore the world of materials science.
- Britney Romero: A bright and promising freshman from Baytown, embarking on a journey in the field of health studies.
A Tradition of Remembrance
Honoring Aggies Past and Present
Silver Taps is a cherished A&M tradition that occurs on the first Tuesday of each month from September through April, if necessary. This time-honored event serves to pay respects to current students who have tragically passed away.
The origins of Silver Taps date back to 1898 when it was first held after the loss of the university’s esteemed president, Lawrence Sullivan Ross. Since then, this tradition has changed little and remains a deeply meaningful part of the university’s culture. On the day of Silver Taps, all campus flags are flown at half-staff as a symbol of mourning, and a list of the names of those to be remembered is displayed at the base of the flagpole in the Academic Plaza.
